Farmington River Park Bench Grant

CULTURAL LANDSCAPE & RECREATION
LFSWS voted to support Bloomfield’s second request for grant funding for the Farmington River Park so the town could buy three benches to provide seating along a Bird Trail. Working on carrying out the town’s Master Plan for the Farmington River Park, the town and other partners developed the Bird Trail. Each bench has been located next to an informational sign regarding birds one would be likely to see at the site. The intention of the Bird Trail with its benches is to provide “an opportunity to sit and listen to the sounds of Mother Nature: the songs of birds, the flowing of water, the wind in the trees, and the rustling of leaves” as well as to provide an educational resource. The benches are Americans With Disabilities Act accessible, with armrests to facilitate sitting down and standing up. They are made of recycled composite materials and will withstand the weather and long-term use. The decisions about which birds to include on the signs by the benches were based on the LFSWS funded Bird Study by Jay Kaplan of Roaring Brook Nature center.
