CACIWIC Conference 2023

OTHER EDUCATION & OUTREACH PROJECTS
The Connecticut Association of Conservation and Inland Wetlands Commissions (CACIWIC) held their annual meeting on Saturday, November 11, at the Bristol Event Center. LFSWS sponsored the attendance of a Committee member who attended several sessions relevant to the lower Farmington River, Salmon Brook and its tributaries. These included greenways as a way to enhance outdoor recreation, how and what conservation commissions can do toward climate resilience and reducing the impacts of stormwater on communities and their natural resources.

There were a variety of other sessions included in the program which were also relevant to LFSWS interests including programs on reptiles and amphibians, regulations for protecting vernal pools, riparian corridors and updates on wetlands law and regulations. The conference is supported by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP) to educate local commissioners on their role and responsibility to know the regulations for wetland protection and to understand how the local decisions affect the broader environment, including neighboring communities.
