Our Towns

When a river is designated Wild & Scenic, it has permanent federal protection, not only from new federal projects such as dams and hydroelectric facilities, but from other projects with federal funding or permitting that could adversely affect the features which made it eligible to be designated. The Wild & Scenic Rivers Act determines eligibility based on the river’s Outstandingly Remarkable Values or ORVs. The Lower Farmington River and Salmon Brook Wild & Scenic designation is based on five ORVs: Biological Diversity, Cultural Landscape, Geology, Recreation, and Water Quality.
